For three successive years, the Taipei Film Festival has collaborated with Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) on “Top Talents” to present Taiwan’s best and brightest film and TV actors on the international stage. Today, we unveil the nine actors of “Top Talents” 2025, including Lee Kang-sheng, Audrey Lin, Mo Tzu-yi, Sandrine Pinna, Tseng Jing-hua, Regina Lei, Kent Tsai, Eugenie Liu and Chung Hsin-ling. The Taipei Film Festival and TAICCA present video portraits of these top talents based on the concept of an audition tape that showcases their unique styles and versatility. The videos are set to premiere exclusively on TaiwanPlus Arts and Culture, a new YouTube channel run by TaiwanPlus, the first English-speaking public broadcaster in Taiwan. In addition, billboards of the nine actors will be displayed outside Taipei’s Zhongshan Hall, offering audiences a first look at the star-studded film festival that opens later this month.

“Top Talents,” a collaboration between TAICCA and the Taipei Film Festival, was first launched in 2023. The showcase’s official website (https://www.top-talents.tw/talents) acts as a database for Taiwan’s on-screen talent. Each year, the actor database updates and expands, allowing crews worldwide to search for actors from Taiwan. Moreover, it raises actor profiles, leading to invites to international film festivals to serve as jury members or award presenters. Previous “Top Talents” have attended awards ceremonies including the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and the Asian Film Awards. This year’s selection committee members include executive producers Yeh Ju-feng, Dennis Wu and Clifford Miu; international sales agent June Wu; film directors Giddens Ko and Huang Xi; as well as executive producer, actor and presenter, Bowie Tsang.

The professional portraits are shot by the celebrated photographer Mr. Triangle, while the English promotional videos are directed by Kassey C.M. Huang of Bird of Paradise Film. Huang expresses, “I’m very happy to have this opportunity to comb through and extend every possibility of performance the actors have. It’s a fantastic experience to have worked with these actors with such limited time.”

Internationally renowned actor Lee Kang-sheng demonstrates the acting skills he has accumulated for more than three decades; through minimal body movement and expression, he conveys authority and confidence. At age twelve, Audrey Lin won Best Actress at the Taipei Film Awards and the Golden Horse Awards. Here, Lin demonstrates exquisite and multilayered acting skills as she sheds tears in different ways. Working in theater, film and television, Mo Tzu-yi reenacts his acting journey via confessional poetry amid the changes between light and shadow.

Two-time Taipei Film Award Best Actress winner Sandrine Pinna appears as a successful career woman. Anger hidden in her sharp eyes, she handles the shoot with an ease that shows her confidence as an established actor. This year, Tseng Jing-hua is nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Taipei Film Awards for “Family Matters.” Tied to a chair, Tseng tries to free himself, symbolizing a personal breakthrough and demonstrating his explosive power. A former Taipei Film Festival Supernova, Regina Lei, ventured into Korean television last year. In this video, she plays a female star who loses control over her weight, vividly portraying the terror and panic the character suffers, which proves that Lei sets no boundaries in her acting.

In “Bad Education,” Kent Tsai showed a different side to the audience. In this performance, the contrast between his black clothes and the white surroundings reflects the contradictions in the character’s personality. Showing a hint of black comedy, Tsai displays his unique, lively, and multilayered acting style. In recent years, Eugenie Liu redefined her persona with the characters she played in “Old Fox” and “Daughter’s Daughter;” this time she chooses to depict a strong woman who decides to liberate herself from an affair and find a new path in life; it not only feels like an extension of the roles Liu played before but blends with her real personality. Chung Hsin-ling, who has won three Golden Bell Awards, transforms the shock she receives after answering the phone into subtle facial expressions, telling the story with the changes in her eyes.

Sony continues to support the Taipei Film Festival and provide “Top Talents” with professional photography equipment, including ILME-FX3, helping the crew capture the actors’ exquisite performances and ensuring the best image quality. The complete “Top Talents” series will premiere exclusively on the TaiwanPlus Arts and Culture YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@taiwanplusartsculture) later today.

The 2025 Taipei Film Festival will be held from June 20 to July 5 at Taipei’s Zhongshan Hall, Vie Show Cinema Taipei Hsin Yi, and SPOT-Huashan Cinema. For more information, please visit the Taipei Film Festival official website, Instagram and Facebook fan page.
