Call for Entries for 2025 Taipei Film Festival Two Main Competitions
Submissions to Taipei Film Awards and International New Talent Competition are open from February 14 to March 14

The 27th Taipei Film Festival (TFF) will take place from June 20 to July 5, 2025. Submissions to its two main competitions, the Taipei Film Awards and the International New Talent Competition, are open from February 14 to March 14.

Since its establishment, the Taipei Film Awards has focused on Taiwanese films and devoted itself to promoting Taiwanese filmmakers, encouraging diverse subjects and innovation. Every year, as it attracts attention from filmmakers in Taiwan and from abroad, it has become an annual major event in the Taiwanese film industry. The nominees in the four categories, including Narrative Features, Documentaries, Short Films, and Animations, compete for not only the best of each category but also the highest honor – the Grand Prize and the other 15 acting and technical prizes for individuals.

The International New Talent Competition is the only international competition in Taiwan dedicated to the emerging directors’ first and second features with a focus on their control over film form, narrative, and subject as well as their aesthetic potential. Each year, from the ten finalists, an international jury will choose the winners of the Grand Prize with a cash award of US$10,000 and the Special Jury Prize with a cash award of US$5,000. In addition, there are the Audience Choice Award and the Taiwan Directors Guild Award.

Last year, 17 countries were listed as the countries of origin of the ten finalists, and the Grand Prize went to Who Do I Belong To directed by the Tunisian-American filmmaker Meryam Joobeur. The Japanese film My Sunshine won not only the Special Jury Prize but also the two independent awards, including the Taiwan Directors Guild Award and the Audience Choice Award; it gained such positive feedback worldwide that it had an extremely successful international film festival run.

To choose films with the biggest potential and the most innovative spirit and to promote the rising filmmakers from all over the world, the International New Talent Competition invites judges of different cultural backgrounds; those who had served on the jury include the two-time Palme d’Or winner Ruben Östlund, the Japanese director Hamaguchi Ryusuke who won the Academy Award Best International Feature Film for Drive My Car, the Golden Horse Award-winning director Pema Tseden, and the renowned Japanese director Yamashita Nobuhiro.

Submissions to the 2025 Taipei Film Festival International New Talent Competition are open from February 14 to March 14. The finalists will be announced in mid-May.
