The awards ceremony for the 28th Taipei Film Festival was held on the evening of July 12 at the Taipei Zhongshan Hall. The highly anticipated Grand Prize was awarded to the Best Documentary, "The Dance of A Soloist". The jury praised the film for its gentle and restrained imagery that seamlessly connects family memory with the history of ethnomusicology. Achieving a moving balance between heartfelt emotion and historical documentation, the film showcases the invaluable cultural worth of documentaries.

In the acting categories, LIU Kuan-ting was crowned Best Actor for his performance in "Double Happiness", while LIN Yi-ting took home her first Best Actress title at the Taipei Film Awards for "A Dance With Rainbows". Meanwhile, the feature film "A Foggy Tale" emerged as the biggest winner of the night, securing a total of five awards.

The Taipei Film Awards jury selects one best film from each of the four major categories—Narrative Feature, Documentary, Short Film, and Animation—before choosing the "Grand Prize" winner from among them. "The Dance of A Soloist" won Best Documentary and ultimately clinched the prestigious Grand Prize as the grand finale of the night. Best Narrative Feature went to "A Foggy Tale", while Best Short Film and Best Animation were awarded to "Somewhere in time, Stone and River" and "Praying Mantis", respectively.

LIU Kuan-ting claimed the Best Actor title for his role in "Double Happiness". The jury remarked that Liu demonstrated an exceptional mastery of his character, creating a figure full of contradictions and depth. He effectively conveyed the character's long-repressed inner emotions through subtle nuances in his eyes, sustaining the role with unwavering conviction and allowing the character's vulnerability, struggle, and desire to flow naturally. Choking back tears upon receiving the award, Liu thanked the mentors who supported him along the way, saying, "Thank you to everyone who might have seen some talent in me. To be honest, I’ve never felt like I possessed any special talent, so all I can do is keep working harder and harder, hoping not to let down those who believe in me."

LIN Yi-ting took home the Best Actress title for "A Dance With Rainbows". The jury highly praised her fresh presence and well-calibrated performance. From her fiercely determined gaze during competition scenes and her explosive physical rhythm, to her delicate movements in daily life settings, Lin seamlessly integrated into the environment and her character, delivering a stunning performance. Tearing up with emotion, she said, "I want to say to everyone who is working hard on the path to their dreams: never give up on what you love. Because somewhere in this world, someone will see you shining brightly one day because of your hard work."

The Best Supporting Actor award went to TIN Kai-man for "Double Happiness". The jury noted that his natural and relaxed performance brought an optimistic old father to life, masterfully crafting a unique comedic rhythm. His multi-layered performance left numerous infectious and moving moments within the realistic drama. Best Supporting Actress was awarded to Vera CHEN (Chen Xue-zhen) for "The Waves Will Carry Us". The jury commended her for successfully breaking through language and cultural barriers, using precise accents, intonation, and speech rhythm to fully establish the persona of a Malaysian Chinese character. She internalized the character's complex life experiences into subtle emotional currents, showcasing a rich and nuanced performance.

This year’s Outstanding Contribution Award was presented by director SHEN Ko-shang to the Taiwan Film & Culture Association. Venus CHEN, the association's executive director, delivered an emotional acceptance speech: "We are usually the group of people closest to the cinema but furthest from the applause. However, tonight, thank you so much to the Taipei Film Festival for this Outstanding Contribution Award. It recognizes the 365 days of hard work by our staff, and most importantly, this award allows everyone to see those of us who work behind the scenes." She also expressed gratitude to director Hou Hsiao-hsien for founding the association and passing down its spirit.
